When you take out a credit or loan, a lender reports it in the Central Credit Information System of the BKR Foundation. If you default on your payment obligation, your positive registration will change to a negative one. After repayment of your credit, an end date will be posted, making it clear that your credit has ended. The BKR registration (and any details) remains visible in the Central Credit Information System (CKI) for 5 years after the end date. This is also known as the retention period.

Lenders and borrowers have an interest in accurate and complete registration. In this way, creditors and borrowers alike can limit the risks involved in lending.

If the registration(s) is technically correct and you believe you have a compelling interest in having the (negative) registration(s) removed, you can ask our Complaints Team to weigh up your interests. The Complaints Team will weigh up your personal interests against the general interests of BKR registrations. It is important that you substantiate your interests well.

A balancing of interests can thus determine whether the (negative) registration(s) can still be removed. It is important that you indicate important reasons relating to your particular situation. It is also important to substantiate your request as well as possible with documents that support your story. This form will help you do this.
